Kim was born on August 21, 1956, in Liverpool, England. She is a Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actress. Her extensive acting career has spanned film, stage and television. Kim has recently received worldwide critical acclaim for her portrayal of the super sexy Samantha Jones, in the HBO hit series "Sex and the City". Before her first birthday, Kim emigrated to Canada with her parents Dennis and Shane. Kim was raised on Vancouver Island, in British Columbia, Canada. At the age of 11, Kim returned to Great Britain and studied at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Graduating high school from the London Academy, she moved to New York City by herself at the age of 16 to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. After Kim's graduation, film director Otto Preminger signed her to a 5 year film contract. A year later, Universal Studios bought out that contract and Kim became one of the last participants of the Universal Contract Player System. While under contract at Universal, Kim guest starred in numerous television series, which eventually led to starring roles opposite Jack Lemmon in his Academy Award nominated performance in "Tribute" and her Lead Actress Genie nomination, the Canadian Oscars for her performance in "Ticket to Heaven". Kim has starred in a host of blockbuster films, including "Police Academy 1", "Porky's", "Mannequin", "Masquerade", "Star Trek 6: The Undiscovered Country", John Carpenter's "Big Trouble in Little China" opposite Kurt Russell, and with Tom Hanks in Brian De Palma's "Bonfire Of TheVanities".
